trophon® EPR is a high level disinfection system that is fast and simple. Disinfection takes place in an automated, closed system and uses a vaporized hydrogen peroxide solution.

The compact design means it can be located at the point of care, helping to improve patient workflow, while the fully enclosed system helps protect both patients and staff by limiting exposure to harmful disinfectant chemicals. As a point of care solution, it can help reduce the need to transport probes between the ultrasound suite and separate cleaning rooms.

How it Works

The probe and Chemical Indicator are loaded into the system and the Start button is pressed to begin the automated process. A controlled quantity of ultrafine hydrogen peroxide mist enters the decontamination chamber, gently covering the entire surface of the probe to kill bacteria  and fungi, and prevent viral infection and replication.

With advanced software controlling  the process at all times, the entire  probe, including the handle, is  High-Level Disinfected in just seven minutes. Residual hydrogen peroxide is broken down into environmentally friendly water and oxygen. The intelligent control unit determines that the High-Level Disinfection cycle is successful, which is validated by the Chemical Indicator’s color change for complete process quality assurance.

The probe is then removed from the system, ready for use.

Comprehensive training and product support material are available to help you install and use your trophon EPR system.

Training can be completed online. You’ll be asked to watch a 15 minute video followed by a questionnaire. Upon successful completion of the questionnaire you will be able to download and print your certification to operate your trophon EPR.

HPV Transmission Risks

A new study shows trophon® EPR is the first high level disinfection system for ultrasound probes that is effective against high-risk, cancer causing strains of Human Papilloma Virus(1).

Appropriate reprocessing of ultrasound probes between patients is critical to reduce the risk of HPV transmission.  Recent research shows disinfectants commonly used on ultrasound probes do not kill natural, infectious high-risk HPV(2).

Given the prevalence of HPV, the potential for HPV transmission in the healthcare setting and the virus’s links to cancer, these research developments are of concern.

The small sealed cartridges that contain a proprietary aqueous solution of 35% Hydrogen Peroxide are 80 mL each which is enough for up to 40 exams (up to 240 exams per box). Product cannot ship air.  (6 cartridges / box; approximately 240 cycles)

trophon In-Process Chemical indicators are used by healthcare providers to confirm that Minimum Effective Concentration of disinfectant is delivered by the trophon EPR system. (300/box; 1” / 26 mm)

trophon Printer and trophon Connect
The printer records each HLD cycle and generates an adhesive label detailing the results of each disinfection cycle for documentation and traceability. This allows the probe and the HLD cycle date and time to be linked with the patient and the procedure.

trophon Printer Paper / Labels
Labels are used with trophon Printer to help address the audit trail often required by hospitals and clinics to track and adhere to infection control guidelines. Labels can be placed in a manual log to reduce the potential for incomplete or inaccurate documentation. The labels are direct thermal, adhesive, and high quality with a seven year print stability. (1 roll – 900 prints)

The trophon Connect software application provides a traceability solution for trophon EPR High Level Disinfection (HLD) system. It enables download of a detailed HLD report  at the click of a button. It is designed to help the user meet audit and  accreditation requirements.
